find out which of your beliefs you actually chose

most of what you believe about money, work, love and your own body was installed before you could read: by your family, a school, television, whatever the feed was pushing that year.

none of it is labelled. this is a way to read it back: claude interviews you, one belief at a time, and asks where each one came from and whether you'd choose it again.

  1. 1open a new chat

go to claude.ai and start a new chat. on a phone or a computer, either works.

do it somewhere you can think out loud. the interview works best when you answer in full sentences, not one word.

    the interview prompt
i want to audit the beliefs i was handed. interview me, one question at a time. cover money, work, success, love, family, my body, rest, and what life is for.

for each one, ask what i believe, in my own words, then dig: where did i first hear it, whose voice is it in, what was it protecting me from, and has it ever been tested? don't let me off with vague answers, but be kind.

when we've covered everything, give me a table: belief · where it came from · inherited or chosen · keep, rewrite or delete.

then, for the three beliefs that cost me the most, write the version i'd choose today, one sentence each.

  3. 3answer honestly

claude asks one question at a time. say what you actually believe, not what you think you should. when it asks where a belief came from, give the first answer that comes to mind: a voice, a room, an ad, a year.

if an answer is vague, claude will push. that's the point. you can say "skip" for anything you don't want to go into.

  4. 4read the table

at the end you get every belief, where it came from, whether you inherited or chose it, and whether to keep, rewrite or delete it. most people find they chose far fewer than they thought.

thirty beliefs with where each came from; four of them lit: chosen by me
  5. 5rewrite three

claude writes new versions of the three beliefs that cost you the most. change the words until they're yours, then put them somewhere you'll see them.

    a few follow-ups worth trying:

    prompt
which of these beliefs contradict each other? show me where two of them pull in opposite directions.
    prompt
which belief have i been using to make decisions this month without noticing? give me one concrete example from what i told you.
    prompt
what would a person who chose all of their own beliefs do differently tomorrow morning? keep it small and specific.
the beliefs edited: some kept, some crossed out and rewritten, some commented out
  6. 6check in a month later

come back to the same chat in a month and paste this:

    prompt
it's been a month. ask me about each of the three rewrites, one at a time: did i act on it, where did the old belief come back, and is the new version still right? then update the table.

a note on privacy

  • you'll be talking about family, money and your body. share what you're comfortable with, and skip the rest.
  • when you're done, you can delete the chat in claude. copy the table somewhere first if you want to keep it.

questions

do i need a paid claude plan?

no. the free plan is enough for the whole interview.

is this therapy?

no. it's a structured conversation that helps you notice where your beliefs came from. if something heavy comes up, talk to someone you trust or a professional.

claude is too gentle, or too harsh.

tell it. "push harder on that" or "slow down" both work mid-interview.

can i focus on one area?

yes. replace the list in the prompt with the one you care about, for example just money, or just work.

is this safe?

you're sharing personal thoughts with an ai service, so read claude's privacy settings and decide for yourself. nothing on this page sends anything anywhere.
